Stadspaleis, translated to English as “city palace”, is a term commonly used to denote a palace located within a city, typically serving as a royal or princely residence. In the Netherlands, there are several historic palaces fitting this description, with one notable being the ” Koninklijk Paleis” (Royal Palace) situated on Dam Square in the heart of Amsterdam. Constructed in the 17th century, the palace became one of the residences used by the Dutch royal family. Although this palace has historical significance, the access is limited, as it occasionally opens to the public.
It’s important to recognize that the term “Stadspaleis” can be used more broadly to describe any palace within a city. Approximately a decade ago, we decided to adopt this name for our establishment.
